My Friend The Grasshopper

Life often surprises us when we least anticipate it. On this occasion, I stepped out of my front door to practice using a macro lens, aiming to capture close-up photos of flowers in my yard. While photographing, I focused on a flower when suddenly a green object leaped onto the driveway in front of me. It was a green-striped grasshopper nymph, creating an unexpected suburban wildlife photographic moment.
I began taking photographs, and the grasshopper moved around, offering me several chances to capture it. I chose to lie flat on my stomach to try to get a headshot of the grasshopper. As I did, it turned to face me, allowing me to photograph it looking directly into the lens. I snapped this picture just before the little nymph hopped away.
I adore the setting. The grasshopper perched on the textured concrete highlights its presence in a suburban environment. It landed on the driveway, allowing me to capture an image of the grasshopper in its suburban habitat.
The major takeaway, especially in photography and videography, is that there's always an unforeseen occurrence that presents an opportunity. Take advantage of it whenever possible.
This photograph was taken with a Sony A7RV, a Sony 90 mm macro emount lens, f stop 4.5, and a shutter speed of. 1/500th of a second using shutter priority.
